Valve and Pipework Insulation for UWE Bristol | Case Study

August 25, 2017

ESOS Energy has completed the installation of valve and pipework insulation covers for UWE Bristol.

The university have committed £1 million per year to fund energy efficiency and carbon reduction projects, aiming for a 22.5% absolute reduction in carbon emissions based on their 2005/06 consumption by 2020/2021. They aim to achieve this by focusing on reducing energy demand and increasing energy efficiency across their estates.

ESOS Energy have assisted the university with their carbon reduction goals by identifying the potential to improve pipe insulation across the Frenchay and Glenside Campuses. ESOS Energy presented the business case for valve and pipework insulation covers across 39 different plant rooms. Working directly with the estates and energy teams, the works were installed on a phased approach to minimise disruption. A summary of these calculations has been provided below.

Summary of potential savings:

Insulating your plant room with pipework lagging and hard wearing removable insulation covers reduces wasteful heat loss, improving the efficiency of the system and subsequently reduces energy consumption of the building, whilst achieving the same internal comfort conditions.
